How to Play Baccarat: Player, Banker and Tie Explained

Read this guide in: Roman Urdu · اردو

Baccarat is a card game with just three main bets and no decisions to make once you have placed your bet. The dealer follows fixed rules, which makes it easy to follow at both digital and live tables.

The three bets

  • Player: you bet that the Player hand will finish closer to 9. Usually pays 1 to 1.
  • Banker: you bet that the Banker hand will finish closer to 9. Usually pays 1 to 1 minus a 5% commission.
  • Tie: you bet that both hands finish with the same total. Usually pays 8 to 1.

How cards are counted

Aces count as 1, cards 2 to 9 count as their number, and tens and picture cards count as 0. Only the last digit of the total counts: a 7 and an 8 make 15, which counts as 5. The highest possible total is 9.

The third card

Both hands start with two cards. If either hand has 8 or 9 (a "natural"), the round ends. Otherwise a third card may be drawn by fixed rules: the Player hand draws on 0 to 5 and stands on 6 or 7, and the Banker hand follows its own table based on its total and the Player’s third card. You never have to decide anything; the dealer or the game applies these rules for you.

Variations

Speed Baccarat has faster rounds, and no-commission tables pay Banker bets without the 5% commission but change the payout for some winning totals. Side bets such as Player Pair or Banker Pair are optional and pay more for rarer results.
